Saved & Spoiled is a weekday comic strip by New England cartoonist John Yuskaitis about Wilson, a rescue dog who crashes into the tidy life of Dewey, a persnickety pedigreed cat!
John Yuskaitis is a Massachusetts cartoonist, illustrator, designer, and author. He lives with his wife and rescue dogs, who provide no shortage of story ideas for Saved & Spoiled.
His professional background spans illustration and design, the seasonal toy industry, consumer goods, marketing, and e-commerce. That combination of creative and commercial experience has shaped the way John approaches his work, from drawing and storytelling to books, merchandise, and connecting directly with readers.
Before Saved & Spoiled, John created the science-fiction comic Boots & Pup . Comics have remained a constant creative outlet, with a focus on character, visual humor, and finding the comedy in best-friend relationships.
Saved & Spoiled is inspired by the pets in my life.
Wilson
Rescue LabWilson is inspired by John’s real rescue dog, Wilson, whose enthusiasm, persistence, and need to involve himself in absolutely everything give him natural main-character energy.
Dewey
Purebred CatDewey was inspired by John’s real purebred Persian cat, also named Dewey. His personality provided the perfect counterweight to Wilson: particular, opinionated, and much more interested in maintaining order than welcoming disruption.
Saved & Spoiled launched in 2025 and publishes new comics five days a week. The comic archive is currently free to read online.
Supporting animal rescues is part of Saved & Spoiled because it is part of Wilson’s story.
Each Saturday, Saved & Spoiled shares the story of a rescue dog through Boston-area rescue organization A Place For Ace , introducing readers to dogs looking for homes.
The weekday comics are there to make people laugh. Saturdays are a chance to put another rescue dog in front of someone who may be looking for a new member of the family.
